In April of 2007 former Perry Meridian High School student-athlete, Heather Norris, was brutally murdered by her boyfriend! Heather’s bright blue eyes and contagious smile lit up a room and her lively, entertaining wit sparked laughter each day. Her mother, Debbie, has been a strong advocate against domestic violence taking her fight to the Indiana State Legislature. In April of 2010, Debbie stood beside Governor Mitch Daniels as he signed the bill, Heather’s Law, which encourages schools around the state to develop and address policies on dating violence. In 2008 Heather’s long-time coach, Howard Ely, along with Debbie launched the Heather Norris Memorial Scholarship where each year a female basketball player from Perry Meridian is selected to receive funds for their post high school career. On Saturday, November 30 th at 1:30 p.m. during the Perry Meridian/Franklin Community girls’ basketball game multiple raffles will be held. Heather Norris was tragically taken from this world at the young age of 20. We “thank you” greatly for keeping her memory alive through the Heather Norris Memorial Scholarship!
