Recap week of January 13th

--Girls Wrestling made the most of the inaugural IHSAA Girls Wrestling State Finals. Sophomore Aniah Delgado defeated her opening opponent to earn her spot on the podium, finishing the say in 8th place at 100 pounds. Junior Lydia Kwaleh won her first three matches of the day to reach the final match at 170 pounds. In her first full year wrestling, Lydia finished the season as the State Runner-up, losing to a four-time state champion. --Boys Wrestling hosted the Mid-State Conference meet this past weekend. Senior Dylan Merilus and Junior Seer Godwise were Conference Champions along with a Runner-up finish by Sophomore Colin Clark. Emi Diaz, Covyn Shelton, Riley Cox, and Edwin Turcios finishing thrid. The team ended the meet in second place and the JV team scored the most points in the JV Mid-State competition. --Both Boys and Girls Swimming and Diving defeated the Cardinals of Southport. Event winners led the girls, Auria Knight 200 and a season-best time in 500 Freestyle, Elaine Means in Diving, Gillian Revard's season-best time in 200 IM, Avery Richey in 100 Freestyle, and Caroline Smothers in the 100 Butterfly. Freshman Maddie Burk was the athlete of the meet and swam a lifetime best in the 100 Butterfly. The boys were led by event winners Nik Baurele in the 50 Freestyle and 100 Breaststroke, Carter Fuhrmann in the 200 Freestyle and a lifetime best time in the 100 Butterfly, Reid Lewis in the 200 IM and 100 Freestyle lifetime best time, Eli Williams in the 100 Backstroke, and Diving won by Hollan Cathcart. Joseph Piang earned athlete of the meet with Joseph Piang with season-best time in the 50 Backstroke (Relay lead-off) and 50 Freestyle and 100 Freestyle (Relay lead-off. --Girls Basketball had the week off from competition and used the time to improve as a team and build comradery through team building activities. --Boys Basketball competed with the Ben Davis Giants in the first round of the Marion County Tournament. The Falcons held their own for the first half but ran out of steam in the second quarter.
